Singer Gavin DeGraw was brutally assaulted early Monday morning after a night out with friends on Manhattan's Lower East Side, People.com reports.
According to The New York Post, DeGraw, 34, was beaten by a group of men sometime between 3:50 and 4:20 a.m. Monday morning. After escaping his attackers, he reportedly walked several blocks and was struck by a taxi, "although not seriously," police sources said.
Reps for the platinum-selling artist confirmed in a statement: "Gavin DeGraw was assaulted ... and was taken to the emergency room at Bellevue Hospital by ambulance. He is currently under observation. We have no additional information at this time."
Sources say DeGraw, who lives in New York and co-owns a bar with his brother near the site of his attack, had been out drinking with his pals but parted ways with them just before the "pack of thugs" outnumbered him, the Post reports.
Although his reps wouldn't comment on the severity of his injuries, police sources tell the Post he suffered a broken nose and cuts on his face.
The violent assault comes during a busy time in DeGraw's career. He has a new album debuting in September and has spent the summer touring with Train and Maroon 5. He was scheduled to perform Tuesday night in Saratoga Springs, NY.
