Good news, Office fans! James Spader -- and his creepily confident character, Robert California -- is a big part of the show's promo campaign for Season 8. During the finale last May, the guy's bizarre powers of manipulation were equal parts funny and intriguing, and left us wanting more. Now, it seems, we'll get it.
In the new promo for the show's season premiere (Thursday, Sept. 22, at 9 p.m. ET), NBC has incorporated snippets from Spader's hilarious appearance, when he was vying for the regional manager job vacated by Michael Scott (Steve Carell). Jim (John Krasinski) appears transfixed by him, and Dwight (Rainn Wilson), a pretty strange and overconfident guy himself, seems to realize he's met his match. Watch the trailer below!
Though this second promo seems to imply that California will be the new regional manager of Dunder Mifflin, executive producer Paul Lieberstein (who also plays Toby Flenderson), says that's just the beginning.
Robert California was "hired over the summer as the new manager, but within hours, got himself promoted," Lieberstein tells Screenrant. "Within days, he took over the company." California, Lieberstein adds, is an "uber-salesman that has a power to convince and manipulate, like a high-class weirdo Jedi warrior."
So, if the unstoppable Spader gets promoted to CEO -- replacing Kathy Bates -- who will take over Michael's seat? The search continues and we can't wait to watch it all play out!
